I knew I was going to do quite a lot of ribbon cable work, so I bought a 50 conductor ribbon cable and the necessary ribbon cable connectors (ribbon to DB25 and header) to do the job. The 50 conductor was all I could find available, so I just stripped off what upper conductors I didn't need. The cables like you show were much too short for me. I made mine around 3 foot long.
