Normal SSI encoders have a ~20 usec timeout on clock so bit banging them is 
probably not going to work. In addition, since the data is being used for 
servo feedback, extra readout delay is not a good thing.  The SSI clock is 
commonly in the range of 100 KHz to a few MHz
