(Sorry, I tried to be cute and put Greek Beta symbols in my message,
didn't work)

With all this talk about serial encoders, does anyone know anything
about Fanuc serial encoders? I've been looking for the protocol specs
all weekend with no luck. It seems they have a VERY large number of
motors out there in the later "red cap" series, the encoder is called
the B128ia. It has 128K counts/rev (131072). There is also a 64K count
version. It is an absolute encoder, and retains index alignment for 10
minutes when unpowered. The closest thing I found was a patent
document, but it was not specific enough about the format.

Anyway, motors from the Bis series use this encoder. Some typical
motors are the A06B-0078-B003, which has encoder model A860-2020-T301.
(In these series designations the capital B should really be a Greek
Beta character.)

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

Jon
