Your right - just checked it works during some cycles and not others,
depending on how the control was set up. 

It's scattered about all over the docs for the series 18's.

Generally doesn't work at all during threading, doesn't work during
macros, it waits until it either of those are complete before stopping.

Tapping is same, feed override is also disabled during that.

The behaviour, however, can be changed by altering system variable #3004
there's a table for various combinations of feed hold, feed override and
exact stop, then all bets are off <G>.
