Well there may be something "funny" about HM2 stepgen

2 customers (RNG and someone I've forgotten) and C. Morley have seen 
unexplained following errors, that seem to be fixed by not running the base 
thread (which was empty so _should_ be a no-op)

One other customer had a problem similar to yours where it looked like Stepgen 
feedback was lost at random times along a move (Ferror increasing in a ramp)
dont know if this was base thread related or not
