There was a similar report yesterday.
try this: in /etc/default/grub, change

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

to

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash lapic"

and then run update-grub and reboot
