Hi Doug, I've become quite interested in making a RepRap type of machine and one I'm particularly interested in is the RepRap Hydra project which combines a plastic extruder with a milling head on the same machine ( and possible other things as well so that you end up with a very comprehensive machining centre ). I don't know whether it's just me who is thick or what but, on that project, I don't sem to be able to work out what pinouts are used on the Arduino Mega. I have managed to load the Hydra v1.3 firmware onto the Arduino and the computer says it is communicating with it but wiring up a lot of leds to it and sending G-codes doesn't seem to produce the flashing I'd expect to signal step and direction signals being output. I tried to install the Hydra v1.4 firmware but, although the directory structure and placement of files seems to be exactly the same as the v1.3 firmware, I get a compilation error saying that the compiler can't find the library files.
This problem also haunts all my attempts to compile and load other versions of RepRap firmware. In each case I think I have put the files and folders together as the Arduino compiler wants them and then, when it fails saying library files are missing, I end up putting copies of the relevant file all over the place in the hope that one might be found!!! I'm currently working on Ubuntu 10.04 and using the compiler from the Arduino site - I tried the same thing on a Windows7 installation but, for some reason that said I didn't have any serial ports installed - so I gave up and went back to Ubuntu. I do have various other machines around if you think it may be an incompatibility issue but the fact that I've previously uploaded several other sketches to my Arduinos ( 1 mega and 1 Dumilanove ) and had them working suggests to me that it isn't. For such little devices, they are causing me disproportionate stress!!! I'd be grateful for any words of wisdom you may be able to offer.... Ian _____________________ Ian W.
