Gentlemen,
The cinci is now running. I added -not to the #43 ppmc input to invert the
sense of the input.
This was a week and a half long saga of frustration.
Installed a new spindle drive.
This eventually necessitated the inverting of two inputs as the sense
of the outputs from the new drive are opposite the old drive.
I decided to update the software to the latest. Bad idea. Even though the
move from 6.06 to 10.04 had been previously suggested I had not yet made the
move. After the git pull the software would not compile. DRAT
SSoo - I will move to 10.04 - no problem - PROBLEM - the computer lack
sufficient resources to run 10.04. This was almost a full day to load and
learn this.
OK - new computer - the computer chosen has no PS2 but it does have a
serial port for the touch screen. Problem - I am unable to make a serial
touch screen function in any Ubuntu past 6.06.
No problem - I will use the only usb touchscreen I have - PROBLEM -
monitor does not turn on.
No problem - I will use the machine for now without a touchscreen.
Beginning to install I realize I will need to run a USB cable for the
keyboard and mouse through the machine from the computer in the cabinet to
the pendant. This was another day and a half to get to this point.
Now for my third install of Ubuntu 10.04 and EMC2. This time on a computer
with PS2. I still don't have the serial touchscreen working but I am finally
at the point I can search for the problems. Another days work to install and
try to get the touchscreen functioning. AARRRRGGGHHH PNP is not Plug aNd
Play - It is not even Plug aNd Pray - it is Plug aNd Cuss.
Found the machine's problem, inverted the signals and the machine is
running.
The good thing is now I am at the 10.04 level.
I will attempt to make the serial touchscreen work with 10.04 prior to
running a usb cable to get the touchscreen working.
If I had had more patience in the beginning I would have not started the
update and would have looked longer for the problem. The fix was simple
until I started fixing it.
