Wow, what a saga! Sometimes, upgrading an old system is not a real good
idea, you should just
expect to build a complete new system on the bench, test everything and
then move it to the machine.
I stayed with an EMC1 system from 12/24/1999 for an amazingly long time
on my Bridgeport,
and was certainly the LAST person using that system for a couple years
before upgrading.
I had to upgrade EVERYTHING due to massive obsolescence of the hardware
by that time.
Think 10.04 will run on a 100 MHz Pentium Classic with 32 MB of memory
and a 1 GB hard drive?

I'm not surprised there might be troubles with the touch screen, those
Magic Touch units are
awfully old by now. So, maintenance of the drivers to stay current with
the kernel is not real likely.
Too bad, as the surface acoustic wave screens are well-made units and
very suitable for the shop environment.
I hope you find a workable driver.

Jon

The modern datacenter depends on network connectivity to access resources
and provide services. The best practices for maximizing a physical server's
connectivity to a physical network are well understood - see how these
rules translate into the virtual world?
