Hi Stuart - I've had similar problems with a 3M serial touch screen. I
spent three solid days playing around to get it working, had given up
and was searching ebay for a newer USB model. Purely by accident I found
it was working!

On startup from power on, touch doesn't work, display is fine. BUT, if I
log in, then log out again and then touch the screen - it works? I can
then log into Ubuntu and it will work all day without any problem. Just
doesn't work from a cold power on. Why - I don't know.

The modern datacenter depends on network connectivity to access resources
and provide services. The best practices for maximizing a physical server's
connectivity to a physical network are well understood - see how these
rules translate into the virtual world?
