I have the code re-arranged to get rid of a subroutine call and to do a 
much courser cut till the last 10 thou, but I don't seem to be able to get 
it to do that final 2 or 3 passes.  It does load quickly now, so just that 
is a huge plus.

I have it running, motor power off, with some debug statements at the 
course to fine transition, so maybe I can get a clue from that when the 
course cuts fall thru.
