Unless you want to go to lots of pain, don't install them. Also, don't keep your LinuxCNC machine on the 'net. Why? Keeps updates from being installed, and keeps the internet 'boogiemen' from getting to an otherwise unprotected machine. Computer viruses have trouble jumping an airgap in networking cables :)
(Sorry, my attempts at computer humor are lame.) Not that there are linux viruses, but there are vulnerabilities if your machine doesn't stay 'patched' with security patches. And not networking helps keep it safe. Others will have different perspective, but I am on the conservative side when it comes to security. ...
