I have continued this subject in its own thread, because I also
think that Andy's proposal is a good one, for the reason that
it would make it very easy to make minor adjustments by
using the built-in math functions:
(user starts touch-off dialog)
12.3456 (appears in touch-off dialog)
12.3456 - 0.001 (user makes minor adjustment w/ math)
12.3446 (after user clicks "accept" or whatever)
(user clicks "done" and dialog closes)
The tool table editor could also use something like this, for
the benefit of those who use "east coast" (part outline) gcode
programming, using non-zero diameter entries. [This is
as opposed to "west coast" (tool path) gcode programming, where
all the diameter entries in the tool table are either zero or
are very close to zero.]
Alternatively, I have worked with controls that accept
"/-.001" as meaning "adjust current diameter down by .001."
The leading slash signifies the differential (relative) form
of adjustment. This would work equally well on lengths and
offsets as well as diameters.
If "slash" is already taken as "divide by", that's fine,
then the math must be working and we can use plus and minus.
If not, then perhaps some other unused character can be
selected for this purpose, or maybe a new entry box is needed.
I'll refrain from commenting on the specific implementation.
Anyway, good idea Andy, I add my +1 also.
Further comments, anyone?
