I have a Bridgeport Discovery 308 VMC with a Siemens Simodrive 611 drive. I've been troubleshooting this beast since the day I plugged it in. From what I can figure out the commutating reactor is on the futz. My phase converter is balanced well, the voltage coming out of the transformer going to the commutating reactor is right on spec at 385vac (370-390) leg to leg. The voltage after the reactor is real high like 550. I changed the taps on the incoming side from 240-250 to the 220-230 taps and the voltage coming out of the reactor dropped to 500. I don't have a clue why the voltage would drop on the ouput side when the voltage on the input side went up unless that is what a reactor does. Anyway after a few minutes of running the drive will trip out.
Anyone have any clue if I can replace the Siemens reactor with a generic line reactor like from AutomationDirect? Does anyone know what voltage a reactor should have on the output compared to the input? Does anyone know how to test a reactor?
