Ok, This is what I've found so far. Board: BOXD2700MUD (from Newegg) 2g Memory (came with board) Sata 750g HD VGA monitor running 1024x768 LinuxCNC 2.5 on Ubuntu 10.04 (installed from Live CD)
Running the Latency test from the gui menu with Firefox and 2 sets of glxgears running I got. With no adjustments out of the box: Jitter on servo thread of 22000 Base thread of 33000 A little disappointing. Rebooted and turned off hyperthreading: Jitter on servo thread of 19000 Base thread of 22000 A little better. Set up isolcpus=1 as per http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?The_Isolcpus_Boot_Parameter_And _GRUB2 and with hyperthreading still turned off, and things got a whole lot better. Jitter on servo thread of 9300 Base thread of 9600 But it's only been running 15 min or so. At first it was as low as 2200&3500 and I thought wow this is really good but dragging things to other desktops bumped it up. All in all I think it will be quite serviceable for our purpose. I will play with the bios settings some more when I have a little more time. Todd Zuercher P. Graham Dunn Inc. 630 Henry Street Dalton, Ohio 44618 Phone: (330)828-2105ext. 2031 -- P.
