I have an 8 year-old granddaughter who is a budding competitive gymnast. Her disposition and body type remind me of Mary Lou Retton (a superstar of the 1984 Summer Olympics). Watching an endless string of gymnasts go through the same compulsory events can seem, well, endless; knowing the competitors makes all the difference. From my granddaughter and her teammates I can extrapolate to what the competitors are going through in London. For my taste, the Olympics should comprise only individual events that involve a quantifiable physical result: run/swim/throw/lift/shoot/etc. and do it faster/higher/farther/heavier/straighter/etc. There's other opportunities on the world stage for team sports and events scored by committee. But hey, that's just me. > I have never understood Intel's marketing strategy, if it really exists. > > Did anyone notice the 425 series of their MiniItx boards?? I'm sure the tradeoff in performance versus cost looks very different to someone involved in mass production. Look at the decisions that have been made in the desktops, notebooks, and netbooks offered in today's mass market. They are why I haven't purchased a brand-name desktop computer in more than a decade and buy a laptop/netbook only when forced to---these days usually because the battery pack has died and all the available replacements for it have already exceeded their shelf life. I no longer get any thrill trying to rebuild battery packs, given the price of cells I can trust and knowing that a pack might catch on fire later if I do it wrong. But, again, that's just me.
