Thats your fault. :) I don't have a winders box anywhere in my zoo. And
at the instant, my only problem is flashplayer. Its installed, and visible
open the about:plugins page of all 3 machines with 10.04.4 LTS installed
from our own custom linuxcnc install cd.

But it is not working, either for firefox or the freecad tutorials which
are in flash.

So I have a chicken/egg problem. And I'm attempting to carve a functional
nut holder for one of Steve's 8x2.5mm ball screws. $64k question for the
steel heads here. Steel is assumed to be about 1016 or thereabouts. Room
in front and behind the nut itself is crowded. I intend to machine the
holder so its a press fit over the nut & screw with perhaps 50 thou of this
steel left on each side of the nut so that the sides can help brace the end
bulkheads by coupling them together from one end to the other. Since it
has to fit over the nut and screw, it will be slightly flexible width wise.

This coupling 'strap' will be machined about 50 thou narrower than the
diameter of the nut, but with the sides cut away to allow it to spring
closed up with the sides of the nut projecting out into the window in each
side, which also gives the cutting tool a chance to square up the recess as
I don't think the 1/8 diameter inside corner I can carve from the bottom
presents a suitable seat for the end of the nut.

Going slow, thinking about how best to do it. The nut holders ends are
wide enough that I can drill & tap for 2 8/32 screws in each end to attach
it to the bottom of the cross-slide. Since the steel against the ends of
the ballnut subtracts available motion that will need to be retrieved by
machining clearance in the carriage top for the mounting ears etc of the
nut holder, my question is:

Have I given enough of a visual description to allow one of you to say how
thick a root the end 'bulkhead' needs to have where it is the brace against
the reaction forces of the screw, which I've assumed will be (under fault
conditions of course) somewhere north of half a ton?

Never give up the cat5, its worth 100x its weight in bottled beer.
