If Kent is right about your question, then here is one example, admittedly for the mutt Mail User Agent (MUA), which is not highly GUI. Hopefully it is at least illustrative of one way to get there. In mutt's config file, I have: set edit_headers=yes # Include them in the edit session. hdr_order In-reply-to References Reply-To cc To From Organization Date Subject so that headers, including the Subject line appear in the edit session in which this reply is being composed. Then I only have to move upscreen to fiddle with the subject header which will go out - no effort needed. To make it even easier to keep the subject line current as threads morph, it is handy to be able to add the standard "[Was: ... ]" without effort also. To automate that, I have an editor macro, mapped to Alt-w, so that editing in two places and beginning insert, only takes one keystroke. Is what I have done to the subject of this subthread what you were asking about? (It does help us decide whether to read this message and its replies ... well, if we're using a threaded mail reader, that is. ;-) Given that a few replies are even appearing without "> " in front of quoted text, it is hard to know how far from internet mail standards some MUAs have degenerated recently.
