http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mail_threading As Kent described, any decent MUA (Mail User Agent) will display email conversations as "threads". In mutt, the display form is a tree, much like the graphic on the wikipedia page. Yours may do something else. So, the best advice which can be offered here is "Just turn it on at your end". (That's where the functionality resides. ;-) Now they are all together. As you say, that's much easier to follow. Ah ... once in a while we do see someone post with the same subject line, but it still doesn't thread (stay together with the others). That happens either when the poster hasn't hit reply (so that the "References:" header is missing), or his MUA is broken, so fails to follow the internet standards, and erroneously omits that header. In the latter case, a good MUA will allow the user to: a) Automatically add these orphans to the thread, just on the basis of matching subject header, even though the "References:" header is missing. (Possibly displaying a symbol to show that has been done.) b) Allow the user to manually add one to a thread, e.g. where the subject has morphed, and "References:" is missing. Hope that helps clarify a bit. Erik -- "Hell is empty, and all the devils are here" - W.
