Hello Bruce, I am running a Mesa 7i43+7i33 servo setup myself. If you press estop, or if estop is generated through the estop chain, then you do not loose position.
To loose position on a rotary encoder or linear scale with a 7i33 you'd need to switch off power to the 7i33, which should trigger the estop. If you do only loose power on the rotary encoder or linear scale then the position will not be updated anymore.
