I actually have a little sherline lathe retrofit that works this way. It has pittman motors run by L298. I haven't used it recently but years ago it was a fixture at the CNC Workshops, demoing (the new!) threadcutting features. > At a closer look it would be useful to > have both DIR and inverted DIR for each PWM channel. You can just use the up/down mode (pwmdir = FALSE), see the pluto_servo manpage. But before you do *anything* else, see if you can get the pluto firmware loaded and get it working. The plutos are notoriously flaky and totally fail to work on some (the majority of?) parallel ports. No way would I use one for my lathe if I was starting today, even if it was free. There are too many good inexpensive choices from mesa. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Free Next-Gen Firewall Hardware Offer Buy your Sophos next-gen firewall before the end March 2013 and get the hardware for free!
