Hi guys; That motor kit fell off one of those little square USPS vehicles today, so now I've had an hour or so to play.
1. The brushes are a full 45 degrees from the magnets, so it doesn't run as well in reverse. Nor does it feel like that hiuge flywheel is moving much air when running backwards. 2. I believe the direction will need a countershaft so the motor will have its brush end on the right when viewed from the rear. 3. If reverse so the fan & pulley is on the left, and I build a jackshaft that places the OEM toothed pulley in the same location as the OEM motor holds it, then I will have nominally 3.2" for a pulley on the left end of the jackshaft, which with the OEM 1" multigroove pulley, should give me around 1000-1200 rpms at the chuck in low backgear. I should have enough ALU to make up the jackshaft frame, so I believe it will work. McMaster-Carr should have a suitable mutigroove pulley, and I have a bearing house 30 miles up the interstate. 2 questions: The controller is a 0-12 volt input, but is an SCR model so the response is slower, (and hums a lot under load) but with that huge flywheel, I am wondering if I have to use the C41, or would it have enough filtering that I can put the 500 to 1000 hz PWM from LCNC straight into it? And second, since I am already setup with a PID servo control for speed, would I need to replace the mutigroove belt for the first stage reduction to this jackshaft with a timing belt? That could be fun because the multigroove pulley is part of the fan/flywheel, which FWIW is screwed to the motor with a CCW thread, no setscrews or keys. It seems to me it really should work as long as that belt lives. Cheers, Gene -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo.
