I had a chance to play some more today as I pulled the OEM motor out to get
a few measurements, I took a break, snapped the brush covers off and
removed the end bell, finding that it was keyed into the stator, so I cut
the key off so I could turn it at least until the through bolts were
hitting the poles, put it back together with the bolts just loose enough I
could take a hammer on a screwdriver and turn it about 2 degrees a tap.
Putting a meter on the controller output, and with 3.000 volts out of the
slider, I measured the voltage to make the motor turn at the rate it was,
tapped it a few degrees & took another reading, but anything more than the
width of the former key off, and the voltage went up, so I tapped it back
and forth to find the minimum voltage and tightened the bolts. Maximum was
around 8.31, minimum was around 8.21 and I could go both sides of the
minimum. Nowhere near the size of difference I half expected. The only
thing of note is that it seems to be about 10db quieter now, unless my ears
got used to it.

The most important thing I find in my measurements is that I will have to
shorten the base and bring the bearing carrier risers up a little closer
together than I'd like in order to have room on the right end (from the
rear) for the OEM drive pulley. I have 6 & 7/8" for the length of the
countershaft, which means the taperlock hub that holds the 3" 6 groove
pulley will have its bolts on the inside face.

I will, once I have a mockup made, have to pester somebody who knows how to
calculate the length of the 6 groove belt I'll need.

Cheers, Gene
