I gather there are ways to recover from an otherwise "bricked" bone, but it seems to be a fairly complex process to rebuild. So, it might be better to not put the / directory on the internal memory, but just UBOOT and the /boot directory, which would be pretty much static.
Maybe this is all old info from working with the Beagle Board, and doesn't happen on the Bone.
