It may have to do with setting up the video output to an odd and high
resolution, or using too many graphics chip features.  On some integrated
video chips with shared memory, the graphics driver uses DMA bursts
that play hob with the memory bandwidth, starving the CPU for
memory cycles.  Generally using the lowest common denominator
graphics driver alleviates this but gives sluggish openGL frame rates.
That's bad for gamers, but good for CNC.
