I don't know if I would say it is unusable, but it is really annoying. We had our gantry (http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?GantryPlasmaMachine) set up with it for a while in the beginning but ended up using trivkins and never looked back. The trivkins config files are linked at the bottom of the wiki.
We had problems with multiple joints on the Y axis. We had odd "jumps" during homing, you had to be ever so careful not to move Y when in joint mode or only one motor would move because each joint is controlled separately. We had a couple other nagging problems (which I don't now recall) and I had begun to compile a list of the specific issues planning to post them but my list got "cleaned up" and I couldn't locate it. -Tom On Oct 24, 2013, at 5:14 PM, Charles Steinkuehler <[email protected]> wrote: > I have a couple gantry systems, one in-hand (Mendel-Max 3D printer, with > dual-motor Z axis) and one on the way (Shapeoko V2 with dual-motor Y axis). > > I have reports that gantrykins is so broken as to be unusable (is it > really?), and I know from experience with my MendelMax that simply > paralleling the motors doesn't keep them perfectly synced. > > So, what's the best practice for setting up a gantry-style machine in HAL? > > -- > Charles Steinkuehler > [email protected] > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > October Webinars: Code for Performance > Free Intel webinars can help you accelerate application performance. > Explore tips for MPI, OpenMP, advanced profiling, and more.
