A twisted bed will probably only have a second-order effect on
diameter anyway. As I am visualising it the effect will be to alter
the tool height. This could lead to taper either way or waisting
depending on the starting height.

I can't help wondering if the axis of the spindle simply doesn't match
the axis of the V in the headstock. If there is a V in the headstock.
If there isn't, or if it doesn't actually fit the V on the bed
closely, then perhaps the head just isn't bolted on straight.
