Gene, This is a little off the thread but you might want to consider using one of the black dummy CD's or DVD's that come in a stack of new discs for your encoder disk. I used one of them for the spindle encoder for both the 9 inch grizzly and the Monarch 10EE. The disks are about the right size and are very easily machined, they are opaque and very flat. I tried just using a blank printable disc first but the white paint they use to make them printable is not completely opaque so I had to put a couple of coats of spray enamel on the disk to get a good contrast. The disk worked fine but I like the solid black ones better. At this time I can think of no reason to ever use anything else.
