Yikes! He got hit by lighting I'd guess. I have not had (that faint thumping sound is me knocking head on wooden doorframe) a single lightning induced loss since I put a new service in about a decade ago. One of the things I had to do was drill trough around 8" of concrete under the service, spaced several feet apart, 8 IIRC, and drive a pair of 8' ground rods, which are tied to the static and neutral busses in the service box with 8 gauge copper in smoothly formed runs. No sharp corners allowed when dealing with lightning. So far, but refer to the knocking above, lighting has not been able to shake up the rest of the houses wiring enough to hurt anything since. And the pole with our service can on it, has been tapped several times since. Between that good ground, and the butt wrap on the pole, its gobbled up some real noise. I'd sure recommend the fellow with the Mazak's check to be sure his service grounding is "up to code". > On 7/17/2014 3:45 AM, Leonardo Marsaglia wrote: > > 2014-07-17 1:22 GMT-03:00 Dave Cole <linuxcncro...@gmail.com>: > >> I would not bother buying used caps.
