Newer mesa cards, such as the 5i25, store the FPGA firmware in a flash
chip. This can be changed by use of the mesaflash program, which should
be available via the package manager if it is not preinstalled.

The mesa manual (the pdf you can get at mesanet.com) describes how to
use mesaflash at the commandline (terminal).

If the FPGA firmware does not match what is assumed by pncconf, then the
resulting configuration file won't load.

This is in contrast to older mesa cards which required the firmware to
be uploaded to them each time linuxcnc was started. With these cards,
pncconf would write a configuration file that would load the correct
firmware each time.
