I dont really know that is why I asked what the thinking of others were. My opinion is that the machine should always start up in the manual mode. The reason I discovered this is that I wrote a Automatic Tool changer component for a Hurco mill. I looked for a exclusive condition of "Auto" mode before the tool changer logic can function. It also looks at the tool change pin but what happened is that my logic started to do all things while the machine was off. It was in "Auto" mode though. Nothing harmful but all my error messages were flooding the screen. I just thought that it was a strange or unusual condition for start-up seeing that all kinds of thing should happen first before it can even go into auto mode. Like homing etc. I coded around the situation to solve my problem but I think it is unsafe to start in "Auto" mode. I also cannot think of reason why one would want to be in "Auto" mode before the machine is properly conditioned.
