I click on "Network Printer" and after a few seconds our network printer shows up, " GestetnerDSM618" in the list, I click on it, click forward, then an installable options page comes up, I click forward, then it shows the description of the printer, and I click apply.

This is what it prints out on the first page,

%!PS-Adobe-3.0
                                %% %%
                                                mark
() () (201503130907) {setuserinfo} stopped
        cleartomark
                                %%%!

Then it just keeps spitting out blank sheets, until I force stop the printer.

Hello All,

Are there any tricks, or added packages that aren't stock
that I need to do to get my printer connected and
functioning properly. We have a network printer here at my
shop, and I have never had a problem under Ubuntu
connecting and configuring the printer. When I try to set
up the printer and print a test page, it prints out some
random stuff on the first page, then the printer continues
to shoot out blank sheets of paper.
Did you allow it to auto-identify the printer model, or did
you supply that info?
HP printers have two variants of each generic model, WITH
PostScript, and
without PostScript. The net direct Ethernet adaptors are
the same for both
models, and may not identify the model down to the right
variant.
So, you might have to force the exact model or driver to use
with the printer.
If it gets a bunch of pages that start off with :
ERROR: <something>
then the printer is in PostScript mode and is getting
something that was
not a PostScript file. If it is strings of weird characters
like diamond-shaped
black boxes, then the printer is in HPGL mode and is
probably getting
PostScript. Possibly the printer has the auto-select
feature turned off,
so it refuses to automatically recognize the file format.

If not an HP printer, then the print manager probably has
selected the
wrong driver/printer type.
