Okay guys, we're there at last... It works! Specifically OpenPnP coexists with LinuxCNC on the same machine.
Now the not-so-great news... I do not like the latency. At first I thought I can live with the lower speed, but stepconf only lets me set the latency to 50000ns, when I'm seeing test values over 1,xxx,xxx ns, and that's causing jerky/intermittent motion. I'm not sure if I can manually change it in the config files... can I? The lower speed would be fine for now, as long as it's not jerky. Another thought would be to try installing RTAI. I see some info on doing it on 12.04, so I may try that... <cringe!> Much thanks for all the help guys!
