If it is that difficult; Can you go the other way and use a Variable to 
hold the P value and put that on the screen
and then write your Gcode to use that variable in the G64 P XXXX 
statement?    Or write to the var in Gcode so it shows on the screen 
then read it back in the G64 statement?
