Well, I guess I just learned something new about how encoders work :). From what I've measured the Heindenhain are just fine, but I guess I'll wait until I have the hardware to wire them up to LinuxCNC so I can fully test them. My idea now is to start the testing on one of the joints of the lathe with an external PC without touching the original logic just to test everything like PID, drive initialization, and so on. So, as soon as I have all the electronics ready I'm going to mount the new encoder wich has a rather easy coupling mount, and I'm going to move that axis to see how it works. Then the other one, wich is going to be very similar and if everything works well the idea is to schedule a date to replace all the logic and re start the machine with LinuxCNC. Hopefully, once everything is tested, the machine is going to be out of service for 5 days. Since we're going to use everything as it is (general purpose relays, turret motor that runs forward and reverse also with relays, turret indexing and clamping inductive sensors, etc.) we only have to identify the connectors and reconnect them on the new hardware. I hope soon I can have some footage of the machine running with LinuxCNC so you can watch it! -- *Leonardo Marsaglia*. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ What NetFlow Analyzer can do for you?
