I started in Mach3, thought LinuxCNC was a bit beta (was like 2005). Invested a tremendous amount of time in it.
Since then I've initially been excited for Mach3 Smoothstepper motion controllers, then disillusioned when I found how irreparably buggy it was with Mach3, and found the XHC mpg was similarly disappointing on Mach3. Mach4 was vaporware which appeared like it was gonna be wholly disappointing. Since then Linux when to a realtime kernel, a LinuxCNC RTK was created, and the Mesa 7i92 cards came out, and Mach3 became a joke by comparison. As much frustration as I have getting LinuxCNC to do what I need, I still absolutely love it.
