Well I bit the bullet and ordered one of those tiny little guys. So now it's a waiting game for the Radeon 9200 video board for $11 and the little SSD. Both slated for end of October to Mid November. By then I should have the X axis Motor mounts cast and machined.
Meanwhile, just tested the Z axis output to a UHU controller with a 24V motor that has a 360 line encoder from the PC parallel port. No issues so far. I still want to play more with the Beagle but at least I do have a fallback. Thanks for everyone's help.
