It might, depending on the servo. The issue is that the rotor is
sometimes magnetised in-situ and the stator acts as a magnetic keeper.

I think that this was more often the case with old-school magnets
(Alnico etc) and might be less of an issue with rare-earths.

You can generally get the end-covers off without removing the rotor
from the stator.

That said, I have had the stator right out of a servo to machine it
shorter (removing the brake) and that seems to still work just fine.
