Ugh. It depends! Some magnets can lose significant strength when the keeper (armature) is removed. Alnico is likely the worst. Ceramic magnets are likely to not be harmed. If unsure, you could make a steel tube about the same diameter as the armature to slide in as you are sliding the armature out. Then, reverse the process when reinstalling the armature.
