I think peters solution would work just fine. You have acceleration time. It isn't like the stepper is going to be instantly moving at to speed.
The leadshine seems to have this built in. After it doesn't see any steps it lowers power. Once it sees steps - it raises it back up. Unknown to linuxcnc.
