There are antifreezes for iron blocks and for aluminium blocks. I
don't know how significant the difference is, as I think that
radiators are almost universally aluminium now.

But nevertheless I am wondering if some chemical reaction has occurred
in the cooling channels.

TBH I would be tempted to assume that it is OK until the brown smoke
proves otherwise and then buy a new one, they are not all that
expensive.
