Hi All,

SoapboxMode := ON;
A very similar thing has happened with something called Replicape which was a
cape for a Beagle that had all the stepper motor and other hardware for 3D
printers. The Replicape ran Redeem and Toggle applications on the Beagle where
Toggle was the LCD HDMI Display software and OctoPrint ran directly on the
Beagle for web access.

Now they are building a combined ARM board with the Replicape features all into
one. The latest Linux Distribution won't even run on the Beagle with the
original Replicape plugged in and support is along the lines of "you have to
update because Redeem is no longer developed or supported".

That whole endeavor probably cost me 4 wasted hours yesterday.

So no FPGA but this drive to modernize and make new and make better without
thinking about all the users out there who are left hanging seems to be a trend
now. So I wouldn't buy a single package meant to do everything either. And
my Xylotex Cape (also discontinued) is still plugged into the BeagleBone
(MachineKit) sitting in a box waiting for the day where I may finally mount it
on a Lathe.

My Delta Bandsaw is from 1939. I power it up, cut a piece of wood and turn it
off. It's a tool. Sometimes I think we lose sight of the fact that the mills
and lathes running CNC are also tools with more than a life of the latest
newest OS or Computer hardware.
