This is something interesting in that it gets away from the management engine and you can have computer cores and counters - pulse generators all in the FPGA. So you would have a Linux computer with special hardware for machine control mostly on one chip (other than memory and video ).

This will happen - the question is what's going on in the details.. and when.

There is another trick that can be done with an FPGA - it can be reconfigured on the fly - gates configured to do one job quickly - then changed for another task thread - the line between software and hardware becomes quite blurred - will need new programming tools..

The wish is for the whole thing to be opensource..
