Or if possible on the back end of the spindle. I don't think any sort of AC/DC Servo driving the spindle with a toothed belt would be solid enough.
Maybe a brake assembly on the chuck back plate? Lots of possibilities. Although again, if one has a mill and a rotary table why bother with the lathe?
