Thanks Marius,
Small typo on my part. Seagate drive label says 1000GB.
So I perhaps to be safe I should download the 2.9.3 ISO, burn a DVD and
install that. Then do the update/upgrade?
That is what I do
One annoying thing I've found so far with the 2.9.4 is the write protection
for so many of the system folders. I went to copy a bunch of the screen
backgrounds over to /usr/share/... and couldn't drag and drop. Had to
resort to 1970's technology and use the command line with a sudo in front of
it.
You will never have root level permission so you have to use sudo for
anything that is system related or that is not with your user scope.
The 2.8 system allows me to drag into those folders. So obviously I'm not
privileged enough on 2.9.4. Is there a way to start the file manager so it
has sudo privileges?
Or how do I update my rights?
Yes open a terminal and type - sudo thunar and away you go.
I always install a thing called mc (Midnaight Commander). It's a Norton
commander (old DOS) copy but it works very well for moving files around.
You also load it using sudo then you have all round access.
Thanks
John

We use the Lenovo i5 often. The best way is to use the ISO. If the boot
fails you make a USB stick with Gparted ISO on and delete all the
partitions on the drive prior to installation.
The hard drive might be too small, as I think you need at least 4Gb.
I have heard of other members complaining about the 2.9.4 ISO not
working. I use the 2.9.3 ISO and then do the update from there.

Hi All,
So it's an older Lenova,Intel core i5 processor with a 1GB hard drive,
memsize says 12205668 kB and it's got an ASUS EAH4550 PCI-E video card.
I've installed the 2.9.4 ISO. Done the sudo apt update and then sudo
apt
upgrade. The attached files shows the errors near the end.
Does this mean the processor is too old for this version of the OS?
Thanks
John
