1/ kettle logic as state-sanctioned logic: [recall: Freud’s description]:
That he had returned the kettle undamaged;
That it was already damaged when he borrowed it;
That he had never borrowed it in the first place. [see also JD]
        Notice how this is the logic ALWAYS in play in the current dDT
administration.

own kettle is missing.”

Epigram: “We thought it would last a year or two.” [from child of the
holocaust, on the new regime marching into Vienna 1938]

History of Austria: was already under rule by its second autocrat since 1933,
and had already assasinated labor leaders and socialists. We always forget —
who here remembers the dictator Dollfuss (assisinated by the even farther right
Nazis?). Who remembers that Schuschnigg (the current autocrat in 1938)
exclaimed in January of 1938: “There is no question of ever accepting Nazi
representatives in the Austrian cabinet. An absolute abyss separates Austria
from Nazism. . . We reject uniformity and centralization. . . . not the
Nation, or that elusive thing, Race.”

 "At first there were parades. Then the change happened quickly.” [from child
of the holocaust]

Happy New Year as well!

Resolutions coupled with critique; this is a period when we have to fight,
against not only fake news, diatribes, violence and hatred, but also against
simplistic analysis; we must learn to listen - to any and all voices. We were
not prepared to comprehend the suddeness of the concrete overturning of
legislations we fought for and believe in, and too many of us have turned to
such despair, as to be basically dysfunctional; I see this over and over again.
So we must stay alive (too much talk of suicide and total resignation) in the
first place; and we must be prepared to resist, on whatever level we can.

- Resist, make art, make noise, be furious!

(A personal resolution - to stay away from Facebook and other social media
platitudes/aphorisms that serve to comfort us - and instead tend towards deeper
listening and analysis: not against theory, but theory with a swerve and the
long take. The world's too complex otherwise and the surface of Fb etc. is
horrific and inauthentic (in Sartre's sense) in this regard. And another
personal resolution - to stay away from Heidegger!)
