Michael: Oops, very sorry! Like Alon noted above, the correct flag is EMCC_NATIVE_OPTIMIZER=1, and not NATIVE_OPTIMIZER=1 like I incorrectly wrote in the first post.
Mark: I pondered a bit whether to document the current form, which like Alon mentioned, we agreed to supercede in the future. However since the existing form reached master, and we don't probably want to remove those flags when migrating to the new design, I saw no harm in doing it.
