Dear Colleagues,
Please be informed that the Special Rapporteur on violence against women
(SRVAW), its causes and consequences plans to undertake fact-finding
missions to Chechnya (September), Turkey (October) and Mexico (November)
2002 in accordance with her mandate.
In this context, we would like to request your kind assistance in preparing
for the visits. In particular, the following types of information would be
particularly useful:
- reports on prevalent forms of violence against women in the countries
concerned
- specific areas/cities where the situation is particularly acute and
which should be included in the SRVAW's itinerary
- individual cases/incidents of violence against women to be investigated
during the visit
- regional/national plans of action to address the problem
- key actors with whom the SRVAW should meet during her visit
(government officials, parlimentarians, judges, military, police,
local/international ngos, international/regional organisation
representatives, academics, journalists etc)
- please add any other relevant information or comments
Many thanks in advance for your usual assistance.
With best regards,
Christina
