I've been asked to clarify my response to this. I want to say clearly that Jon's message was outside the Code of Conduct, and I spoke to him about it off-list. I sincerely hope that there won't be other posts like that one in the future, from anyone. While Kat could have been more appreciative of the work that Jon has done, the response she got was very sarcastic and did not engage in a polite substantive discussion of the points. It was not respectful or considerate and did not assume people mean well. I am glad that Andre and Seif pointed that out, though I think that in this and in cases on other mailing lists it's easy to respond with a too negative message. I think a simple warning is sufficient, followed by action if necessary upon repeat behavior. I'm also glad that Kat directly addressed it. In any case, I hope we can move on from this instance.
The point of my original message is that I think we can learn from this and be nicer to each other. I also think we should improve the Code of Conduct so there is specific action recommended. Right now it's so vague I'm not sure it's helpful (we have a lot of posts that aren't generous on gnome lists, for example). As you may have seen, I've suggested it as a point of discussion at our next meeting tomorrow if there's time (and elsewhere if there isn't). I've also suggested to the board that we should improve the Code of Conduct and it is on the agenda for the next board meeting.
