Hi Claire!
The Joseph Priestly´s statement is very interesting, but I do not know if I
totally agree.
In my opinion this phrase must updated. The key word of communication
between people is attitude.

All the ways used to communicate people today is very useful, if you know
how to use them. For me, as a example, I have a real difficulty in use
Messengers, like MSN or Google Talk. Sometimes I use it, but rarely. I have
only few friends in my messenger list, and only when I need I log in to see
if somebody in logged in too. But of course I realize that the Messengers
are very powerful, and cheap to communicate with our friends.

Some old people say that all these new communication era with e-mails,
messengers, social communities (like Facebook, Orkut, My Space etc) make the
relationships more cold. They say that a conversation by the telephone is
much better to keep the friendships warmer than talk through Internet. I do
not agree with this. The problem is the way how the technology is used. It
is much more easier answer a friend´s discreet request of money by a e-mail,
than answer this by telephone in the middle of a office. By e-mail we can
also send photographies and videos to relatives, partners and friends. And
send very important messages much more faster than a paper letter.

Finally, I agree with Joseph Priestly in one aspect. We need be less
complicate and more simple. It is not necessary to have all kinds of
communications devices available in the world, if you need only a telephone
and a e-mail. It is very nice to have a lot of options like Blackberries,
IPhone, Skype, but is important to know how to choose what is better for
you, considering the price and the how the chosen technology will help you
to manage your life.

Speaking about Skype, I need to understand how it works, because I heard
that it is a very cheap way of communication. I usually use a regular mobile
phone, e-mail and a telephone in my residence. For me is enough as far.

I hope that my words had been comprehensive.

Best regards.
